Texas’s longest-serving governor, Rick Perry, will visit Charleston, South Carolina, to speak with The Citadel Republican Society at noon on April 6. The event will be held in Mark Clark Hall’s Buyer Auditorium. Perry graduated from Texas A&M University in 1972 and commissioned into the Air Force and served for five years. In 1984, he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives and served three two-year terms in office. Over the course of his political career, he served as the Agriculture Commissioner, Lieutenant Governor, and Governor of Texas until Jan. 2015, when he retired. The Citadel Republican Society is the official campus auxiliary of the Republican Party on the campus of The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. Noon. FREE and open to the Public.

Experience the beauty of Old Towne Creek County Park during ‘Wine Down Wednesday’. Old Towne Creek County Park, formerly Ashem Farm, was home to Charleston preservationist Emily Ravenel Farrrow and her St. Andrews Riding Academy. Located in West Ashley, the 67-acre estate is dotted with open fields mixed among groves of Live Oaks. Be inspired by the legacy of the Lowcountry’s nature and history with views from the park of South Carolina’s first English settlement at Charles Towne Landing, and the winding of Old Towne Creek through the salt marsh. Currently, the park is only open for programs and private rentals, but along with several other property holdings throughout the Lowcountry, it will one day become a county park available for regular use. Wine Down Wednesday is a great opportunity to get a sneak peek of this future park. Guests will enjoy wine, hors d’oeuvres, and live music at this hidden gem located in West Ashley. Easter Sunrise Service at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens ~ 04/05/2015

Old St. Andrew’s Parish Church and St. Andrew’s Mission Church will gather for an Easter Sunrise Service at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens on the banks of the Ashley River. The 6:30am service on Sunday, April 5, will be held on the lawn outside The Carriage House. Parking is Free. Following the Service, attendees will be offered Free Admission to the Gardens. The Peacock Café will open at 8:30am.
