Holiday Festival of Lights Run/Walk ~ 11/12 & 11/13/2014

James Island County Park

Two-mile non-competitive fun run and walk and special preview of the Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park. After reaching the finish line, participants are invited to enjoy all the Festival has to offer. Event begins at 6:30pm. Park will close to all traffic at 6:30pm and will not reopen until approximately 8:30pm. Race fees are $12 per person (ages 3 and up). Tickets can be picked up until 5:30 on the day of the event at CCPRC Park & Program Services.

16th Annual James Island Connector Run ~ Cannon Park ~ 11/01/2014

Come join the 16th annual Charleston James Island Connector Run November 1st beginning 8:30 am. The Event features a 10k run/ bike and a 5k run/walk over one of the most beautiful views of the Charleston harbor followed by a fun post run party which includes live music, food, refreshments and a jump castle for the kids.

Charleston Visitor's Center Bus Shed

Do you and yours enjoy live bluegrass music and sampling delicious BBQ and bourbon? Of course! Then join the Lowcountry Hoedown on Saturday, November 8th. This all-inclusive South of the Mason-Dixon Line and East of the Mississippi affair features sampling from over 30 bourbon & moonshine distilleries, restaurants, and artisan food vendors, plus a bang-up array of two fantastic Bluegrass Bands: Seven Handle Circus from Atlanta, GA and The Dunder Chiefs from Charleston. Tickets are $50 in advance, $65 at the door (if available), and include sampling from all participating vendors and live entertainment. A portion of the proceeds from this event benefit Lowcountry Food Bank, whose mission is to lead the fight against hunger.

Let your holiday adventure begin at the Fort Sumter Visitors Center at Liberty Square where you board the Spirit of the Lowcountry. Your will journey back in time to Christmas,150 years ago. During the cocktail reception on your way to the Fort, a National Park Service Ranger will set the memorable scene. At the Fort, re-enactors representing Union & Confederate soldiers share their experiences of Christmas at Fort Sumter. After touring the Fort, a delicious three-course, Southern-style dinner will be served during a cruise through Charleston Harbor. Rangers will be available to answer questions on the return trip to Liberty Square.  Don’t miss this unique opportunity of exploring Fort Sumter by lantern light in this exclusive after-dark tour of the Fort. Festive and educational ~ seeing re-enactors realistically portray Christmas past for those serving on Fort Sumter 150 years ago is moving and memorable. The cost is a reasonable $68.00* per person (plus tax). Boards: 4:15pm Liberty Square. Craftworkers demonstrate the skills practiced by slaves as they prepared the antebellum plantation for winter. Different aspects of 18th and 19th century plantation life will be explored including domestic skills, African American culture and Gullah storytelling. 10am-4pm. Free with General Admission.
